  • All Kinds of Minds is an organization devoted to parents, teachers and students who struggle with the demands of school. One section of the site, The LearningBase, is filled with ideas for interventions and by-pass strategies.

  • Learning to Read is a site filled with information of interest to teachers and parents of young readers. It includes links to professional organizations & publications, links to book publishers and authors, interactive lessons for the classroom teacher, and information about balanced literacy.

  • The International Reading Association is an organization dedicated to improving reading instruction and promoting the life-time reading habit. Its periodical The Reading Teacher is an excellent resource for teachers.

  • Teaching Word-Identification Skills and Strategies, authored by John J. Pikulski, has lots of tips and information about reading instruction.

  • How Stuff Works is a site that might entice a reluctant reader to read. For the person interested in the workings of things, from solar power to web pages, this site is filled with interesting tidbits of information, lots of which would appeal to a young child, especially one with an engineer's mind.

  • Creative Teaching is a site developed and maintained by Robert Morgan, teacher extraordinaire, devoted to helping teachers enhance their creative teaching abilities. One section includes creative ways to encourage reluctant readers.

  • Cleveland Hts.-University Hts. Public Library maintains a website devoted to books. It includes lists of books, reading lists for University School and other area schools, homework ideas and help, websites and information relating to popular authors, and even software to download. Check out the section devoted just to kids.

  • The World of Reading is designed to be an educational, challenging, and safe web site for kids. Its goal is to encourage active participation in reading and writing. It includes reviews of many books, organized by category, and has links to sites that publish students' writing.

  • Useless Knowledge offers a wealth of information that could come in handy, or, at the very least, helps to justify time spent doing something totally useless!
