PAST
SIMULATED MISSIONS AND ACTIVITIES
|
Astronaut Sunita Williams talked to boys at University School
via amateur radio in the spring of 2007 from the International
Space Station. Then, after her return to earth, she
visited University School to present an assembly and
meet in person the boys to whom she had spoken from
space.

GRANT PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS:
( FULL SCREEN, FULL MOTION, COLOR INTERACTIVE VIDEO AND SOUND
BETWEEN AND AMONG THESE SCHOOLS DURING THE MISSION) During
these interactive missions, students used videoconferencing to exchange
data between space shuttles and the space station. They discussed
experiments they were performing at their respective schools. Conversations
among students developed spontaneously as they saw the activities
in progress at other schools. Students taught students. Just
as NASA must communicate with the space shuttle and the nearly complete
space station, students communicated information, progress, and
vital data as they conducted simulated space science activities.
Videoconferencing moved from simple remote video to real interactive
video education involving students in a participatory simulation! UNIVERSITY
SCHOOL, Shaker Heights, Ohio
EMERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL, Lakewood, Ohio
This
simulation was "broadcast" to schools and colleges via
NOTA, The Northern Ohio Technical Association video network. The
network currently includes 3 colleges and 19 high schools and is
directed by John Ramacone.
