UNIVERSITY
SCHOOL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
University School believes that the ideal
educational environment should be as fully representative as possible
of the community we serve. To enable the school to be enriched by
the presence of boys of special ability but modest means, the school
maintains a considerable financial aid program supported by special
endowments and other income. It is important to note that University
School does not offer any scholarships for specific abilities or
talents, but rather need-based financial aid only.
Beginning at Grade 5, financial aid is awarded by committee to applicants
whose qualifications seem strongest. Stipend amounts are determined
annually by both family need and specific funds available to the
school. No students receive full financial aid; while the school's
commitment to financial aid is considerable, each family enrolled
is expected to share that commitment.
In all cases, applicants for financial aid are expected to file
a formal application well in advance of admission or reenrollment,
providing detailed financial information on forms available at the
Hunting Valley or Shaker Campus Admission Offices. Need is tabulated
by the School Scholarship Service in Princeton, New Jersey, and
confirmed or modified by required current IRS returns, along with
other financial information that families may feel is important.
This program enabled around 150 outstanding boys to attend University
School last year. The school recommends that families limited in
financial means, but appreciative of the school's potential to make
a significant difference in their son's development, take advantage
of the opportunity provided by the financial aid program. More detailed
information is available at the Admission Offices.
